When Nor’Easters come
I wish for lavish snowfall
Shut my city down, please

Snow in blackened mounds
Heaped along bleak city streets
Socks wet in my boots
Eight hours of sunlight
Every day in December
Sixteen hours of night
The vines have gone black
Still wrapped around fence pickets
Mourning summer’s death
Winter is coming.
The cold gets into your bones.
Darkness settles in.
